Description

The LBX headset frame brace is cheap insurance for any SurRon Light Bee that gets ridden hard. With bigger tyres, jumps and aggressive riding, the frame around the steering head bearing on earlier Light Bee models can start to elongate. This brace reinforces that area before the damage happens.

Why fit an LBX headset frame brace?

Once the frame around the head bearing has stretched, the only real fix is a new frame. That is an expensive repair for a problem that a small, inexpensive part can help prevent. SurRon recognised the issue too – from the 2023 models onwards, Light Bees come with a bearing head brace fitted from the factory. If your bike is an earlier model, fitting an LBX headset frame brace brings it up to the same standard.

  • Preventative part that reinforces the steering head area
  • Helps stop the frame elongating around the head bearing
  • Includes the pinch bolt
  • Black finish to suit the stock frame
  • Designed specifically for the SurRon Light Bee

When should you fit it?

The best time is before you notice any play or movement at the headset. If your LBX is a pre-2023 model and you ride with bigger tyres, jump regularly or ride rough trails, fit the brace as soon as you can. If the frame has already stretched before the brace goes on, a new frame will be needed – the brace is a preventative measure, not a repair.

Installation tips

  • Support the front of the bike so the forks hang freely
  • Check the headset bearings for wear and adjust or replace them if needed
  • Fit the brace and tighten the pinch bolt evenly to the recommended torque
  • Turn the bars lock to lock and confirm nothing binds before you ride

Fitment and compatibility

This LBX headset frame brace fits the SurRon Light Bee only. It will not fit the Ultra Bee, Talaria or other bikes. It is available in black only. If you are unsure whether your bike already has the factory brace, send us a photo of your steering head and we will let you know.

Pair it with other LBX upgrades

Riders fitting a headset frame brace often refresh the steering and suspension at the same time. Our tapered roller bearing headset kit and frame bearing kits are good companions, and you can browse every SurRon Light Bee modification in one place.

LBX headset frame brace FAQ

Do I need this on a 2023 or newer Light Bee?

Models from 2023 onwards come with a bearing head brace from the factory, so this part is mainly for earlier bikes.

Can it fix a frame that has already stretched?

No. It is a preventative part. If the frame has already elongated, you will need a replacement frame.

What colour is it?

Black only.

Product notes

Riding a Light Bee hard, especially on larger tyres, puts a lot of load through the steering head, and over time the frame around the head bearing can start to ovalise. SurRon recognised the problem and began fitting this brace at the factory on 2023 models.

  • Fit the lbx headset frame brace early – once the head tube has stretched, the only cure is a replacement frame.
  • Pinch bolt supplied.
  • Finished in black (no other colours).
  • Made for the SurRon Light Bee; it does not suit Talaria models.
