Surron Hyper Bee: Surron’s family-sized electric dirt bike

Surron built the Surron Hyper Bee with families in mind. It is a new, scaled-down machine that gives kids, teens and lighter adults a taste of real electric dirt bike performance, without the bulk or intimidation of a full-size bike. A handful of smart safety systems make it reassuring for parents, and running costs are close to nothing. Local stock is ready to ship.

Surron Hyper Bee family electric dirt bike in SurRon Yellow

There is real punch on tap – peak output reaches 8,000W, the rear wheel sees 185Nm and the bike will hit 65km/h. Yet it weighs only 39kg wet, the seat height can be changed, and SAWC anti-wheelie control stops over-eager throttle hands from lifting the front.

Why families choose the Surron Hyper Bee

Small petrol bikes come with familiar headaches – noise complaints, jerry cans of fuel, oil changes and a clutch that new riders stall again and again. The Hyper Bee sidesteps all of them. Charge it, turn it on and go.

  • Easy to manage: Surron Australia lists the wet weight at just 39kg.
  • Adjustable seat: set anywhere from 665mm to 705mm to suit the rider.
  • Safety systems: anti-wheelie control (SAWC) and three power levels.
  • App-linked: the onboard T-Box (data free for three years, up to 50MB monthly) lets parents track location, check the bike’s condition and tweak settings from a phone.
  • Ready out of the box: a torque wrench tool set and the standard thick seat cushion are supplied.

Power, torque and speed

Peak output has been lifted to 8,000W, and a stronger gearbox delivers 185Nm of torque at the drive wheel. Surron Australia quotes a 0–50km/h time of 2.59 seconds and a 65km/h top speed – more than enough for trails, tracks and riding around the property.

Three power modes plus reverse control how much of that performance is on offer. Mode 1 is perfect for learners; step up to modes 2 and 3 as ability and confidence improve. Reverse lets riders back out of awkward spots without climbing off.

How far it goes and how fast it charges

Inside the lift-out 58V 22Ah pack are automotive-grade 26105 cells. They store up to 290Wh per kilogram and can sustain a 7C discharge, which is what lets such a small battery feed an 8,000W motor. Range has been extended to 56km at a constant 40km/h, and Surron Australia lists roughly two and a half hours for a 20–80% charge.

In practice, most families will get a solid afternoon of riding from one charge, with a lunchtime top-up for full-day outings. Expect less range with heavier riders, hilly terrain or the higher power modes.

Size, suspension and brakes

Overall, the bike measures 1,500mm long, 680mm wide and 885mm tall (Surron Australia figures). Wheelbase is 1,035mm, and ground clearance sits between 240mm and 260mm. The seat adjusts between 665mm and 705mm, and the maximum carrying capacity is 65kg.

Up front, a 35mm inverted dual-crown fork offers 170mm of travel; at the rear, an adjustable shock gives 185mm. Hydraulic discs – 180mm front and 160mm rear – provide controlled, confident stopping. Standard rolling stock is a 14in front and 12in rear on CST knobbies; if the rider needs the bike lower still, smaller wheels can be bought separately.

Surron Hyper Bee price and inclusions

The Surron Hyper Bee starts at $4,939.00 with 10% GST included, making it the most affordable Surron in our range. Crated delivery costs $250 per bike to anywhere in Australia.

In the crate you will find the bike, its lift-out 58V battery, a torque wrench tool kit and the standard thick seat cushion; our 12-month defect warranty covers the first owner. A thinner seat cushion and smaller wheels are sold separately for riders who need a lower setup.

Against a petrol mini bike, the savings keep coming: no fuel, no oil and far fewer jobs in the shed.

Who the Surron Hyper Bee suits

This bike is designed around smaller, lighter riders. With a 65kg rider limit and a 665–705mm seat range, it fills the gap between a first balance bike and a full-size machine, and also suits lighter adults who simply want a fun, small bike.

  • Riders up to 65kg, including their gear.
  • Learners who will appreciate power mode 1 and anti-wheelie control.
  • Acreage owners who need something quiet enough not to bother the neighbours.

If the rider is over 65kg, look instead at Surron’s Light Bee X (rated to 100kg) or E-Ride Pro’s SS 3.0 (rated to 137kg). E-Ride Pro’s Mini R has almost the same 64.8kg limit, so it will not help with weight. Younger riders must always be supervised by an adult.

From first ride to confident rider

Children change quickly, and a bike that suits them at seven may feel cramped at ten. The Surron Hyper Bee deals with this better than most small bikes. Start with the smaller optional wheels and thin cushion for a very low seat, and keep the bike in mode 1. As the rider grows, refit the standard 14/12-inch wheels and thick cushion, raise the seat towards 705mm and loosen the restrictions by moving to modes 2 and 3. The adjustable rear shock can be firmed up as body weight increases. Handled this way, one bike can cover several years of a young rider’s development – right up until they reach the 65kg limit and are ready for something like a Light Bee X.

Colours and options

Pick from three finishes – SurRon Yellow, Hyper Blue or Hyper Green – using the options on this page. Our stock count is live, so the colours you can select are the ones we can ship.

Hyper Green Surron Hyper Bee for younger and lighter riders

Need the bike lower? Smaller wheels and a thin seat cushion are available separately, allowing the Surron Hyper Bee to grow with its rider.

Adjusting the bike to fit the rider

The Hyper Bee adapts easily to the person on it. Spend a few minutes on setup before the first ride, and check it again as the rider grows:

  • Seat: set it between 665mm and 705mm so the rider can comfortably reach the ground.
  • Cushion: swap the supplied thick cushion for an optional thin one to drop the seat further.
  • Wheels: the bike ships on 14/12-inch rims; smaller sizes are optional extras.
  • Rear shock: adjust it to suit the rider’s weight.
  • Levers: position them so one or two fingers reach comfortably.

Helping a beginner learn

Twist-and-go electric drive removes the two things that frustrate most beginners – stalling and gear changes. Even so, build skills in stages:

  1. Get comfortable: power off, sit on the bike, find the footpegs and practise squeezing each brake lever.
  2. Roll and stop: in mode 1, with SAWC on, ride a few metres in a straight line and come to a gentle halt – repeat until it is second nature.
  3. Turning: add slow, gentle loops around cones, looking ahead.
  4. Add variety: try riding stood up, then tackle small humps and mild inclines.
  5. Level up: unlock mode 2 once braking, turning and throttle control are consistently tidy.

Twenty-minute sessions that end on a high beat long, tiring ones – and an adult should always be watching.

The app and T-Box

Every Surron Hyper Bee carries a T-Box connectivity module, with three years of data included at no cost (50MB a month). Using the app you can see the bike’s status and location and change functional settings – handy for parents who want to keep tabs on the bike and configure it for a particular rider.

There is a security bonus as well – if someone wheels the bike away, its position shows up on your phone.

Electric vs petrol for family riding

Against a small petrol bike, the Hyper Bee wins on noise, cleanliness and simplicity. You will not need to store fuel, change oil or clean a carburettor, a charge costs cents rather than dollars, and with barely any noise the neighbours may not even know you are riding.

That is why so many families now pick an electric bike over a petrol pit bike: more riding, less tinkering.

No. The Hyper Bee has no ADR compliance and is sold strictly as an off-road bike. That rules out registration, public roads, footpaths and public parks. Stick to private land and venues that specifically permit electric dirt bikes.

Anything ridden on the road has to meet the Australian Design Rules (ADRs) and carry registration. For a Surron you can plate, see the Ultra Bee HP.

Where families ride

Acreage at home, a mate’s farm (with permission) and junior sessions at local MX clubs or trail parks are where most Hyper Bees get ridden.

Check each venue’s requirements in advance – some need memberships, particular gear or an adult supervisor. Electric bikes are often accepted where petrol bikes are not, but stay within the venue rules and be courteous to everyone else.

What to bring on a family ride day

Good days out start with a well-stocked ute. Throw in the charger with an extension lead so the battery can be topped up while everyone eats lunch, plus the torque wrench kit that came with the bike and a tyre gauge.

  • Helmets, goggles, gloves, boots and body armour for each rider – and a spare pair of gloves and goggles.
  • Plenty of drinking water, food, sun protection and a stocked first aid kit.
  • Chain lube and an old towel for a wipe-down between sessions.

Keeping young riders safe

Technology helps, but supervision and protective gear do the heavy lifting. Kit every rider out with a certified helmet, goggles, gloves, proper boots, knee and elbow guards and chest armour. For the first rides, lock the bike in mode 1 and leave anti-wheelie control on, and pick open ground with no roads, dams or drop-offs nearby.

Walk the area before anyone rides, mark out clear limits and make sure a grown-up is watching every session. If you like, use the app to keep an eye on where the bike is and how it is running.

Delivery and getting ready

Crated bikes go to city, regional and rural addresses across Australia, and you may need to do a small amount of assembly.

Once it is out of the crate, give the battery a full charge, adjust the seat to suit the rider, pump the tyres to the right pressure and squeeze both brake levers to make sure they bite. Then run the supplied torque wrench over the main bolts.

Keeping your Surron Hyper Bee running well

  • Plug the battery in after each outing – do not let it sit empty.
  • Park the bike and store the pack in a shaded, dry and cool spot.
  • Keep an eye on chain condition, tyre wear and brake pads.
  • Clean with a gentle hose or bucket and sponge, steering water clear of plugs and wiring.

Every handful of rides, spend five minutes on a quick inspection: check important fasteners with the torque wrench, look for a stretched or dry chain, and scan the tyres for damage. Spotting small problems early is the easiest way to keep a kids’ bike safe. With no engine oil, fuel or spark plugs involved, it is about as low-maintenance as a dirt bike gets.
